Early Intervention by Emergency Teams in LTCFs Reduces COVID-19 Incidence and Mortality
What's New:
A study on long-term care facilities (LTCFs) in shows that deploying emergency response teams (ERTs) early during COVID-19 outbreaks significantly lowers both infection and mortality rates.
Key Findings:
Incidence Rates: Early-phase interventions (within 7 days) showed a 30.3% incidence rate among residents, while late-phase interventions had a 36.6% incidence rate.
Mortality Reduction: Case-fatality rates were slightly lower for early interventions (14.8%) compared to later interventions (16.9%).
Impact on Staff: Incidence among care workers was also lower in facilities with early ERT involvement (10.8% vs. 12.6%).

Early response by ERTs allows for better infection control and resource management, reducing virus spread and saving lives in LTCFs. Quick action not only benefits residents but also protects essential healthcare workers, emphasizing the importance of emergency preparedness in healthcare settings.
